Our actual Giant Jean le Bûcheron _ Johnny the woodcutter (as he was named when he travelled to India in 1989) _ is aging...
A bit of history first : The first figure Johnny I was created in 1914, but its torso was taken by german soldiers during WW2 and lost in 1945. The actual figure was built in 1948.
Though it has been restored a few times since, time does its work and time has come for for Johnny II to retire.
We contacted a few artists in France, Belgium and Spain to get quotations for a new giant: Johnny III.
We want a new giant, not a clone of the actual, but nevertheless, Johnny III will probably be quite alike Johnny II.
We wish to keep its main caracteristics : carried on the shoulders, by two men one behind the other, according to the flemish ways. It will still hold an axe, have a moustache, and a winged helmet....
The project should be over by the end of 2014 !
